Tiger Woods wins again
August 27, 2006
Tiger Woods just sank his birdie putt on the 17th hole in a playoff to beat Stewart Cink at the World Golf Championship at Firestone Country Club in Akron Ohio.
Tiger gave Stewart a chance to win with a par putt on the previous hole on 18 and Stewart JUST missed it. Of course, Tiger Woods doesn’t give his competitors too many chances to beat him and with a sudden squall of rain pouring down on him on the 17th fairway he stuck a fantastic approach shot to just outside of 8 feet. Tiger didn’t miss his birdie putt this time and then we saw what makes Tiger the great competitor that he is. His expression of pure joy. Surely, after all those wins and all those majors, a WGC win, even with its added prestige, wouldn’t be that big a deal! Maybe it wouldn’t be for us if we were to play with his skill, but Tiger Woods just loves to win more than most people. It’s that drive that compels him to grind out amazing pars and dazzle us with amazing sand saves and miraculous shots from the trees. In golf, and perhaps in all competitive sports, no one has as much of that ’stuff’ as Tiger. Wow.
