Tiger Woods dejected at the 106th U.S. Open
Exit Signs must be clearly marked

Reviewing the cut list for the 106th U.S. Open at Winged Foot in 2006 is like reading a veritable who’s who of Golf.

Yesterday we featured the amazing story of Tiger Woods missing the cut but only today did we learn that Tiger tied Jack Nicklaus’s record for most Major cuts made at 39 (since the U.S. Open went to stroke play in 1958).

Knowing Tiger, we’re sure that he is happy to have at least tied Jack’s record but let’s face it - Tiger has clearly made it his goal to break every record set by Jack.

Tiger Woods hit hard

Does Tiger even know? Will he play long enough and well enough to ever challenge that record again? You would think that the notion of missing a Major cut is so NOT in Tiger’s realm of possibility that he wouldn’t even have had this record on his mind. Some of the other victims of Winged Foot are pretty amazing as well.Last Year’s Champion Michael Campbell won’t be defending his Title over the weekend after shooting a 75 and 77 for 12 over par.

Ryder Cup hopeful Zach Johnson didn’t help his chances of making the team any by posting a 73, 77 for 10 over Par and JUST missing the cut. Ouch!

How about the amazingly strong South African contingent?

Rory Sabbatini - Cut

Garcia spent some time in the Kitty Litter before missing the cut at the 2006 U.S. Open

Trevor Immelman and Ernie Els squeaked in by two strokes and three strokes respectively but before the tournament had started I would have put money on all these guys making the cut, even winning. Here are some other Major surprises:

Stuart Appleby
Sergio Garcia
Chris DiMarco
Chad Campbell
Davis Love III
And playing in what may well be his last U.S. Open, Nick Price with am 81 and 78 for a 159 over two days. Nick, we love ya.
